Embrace Communications
Embrace
Communications is a particularly effective strategy we developed
that combines outreach and advocacy.
The “embrace”
consists of two arms:
* An outreach or publicity arm…sharing the good news of your
organization
* An advocacy arm… messages and methods designed to effect
change: locally, statewide or nationally.
One arm embraces a
specific audience (organization members, constituents,
stakeholders, local community residents, local media, etc.)
The other arm
embraces a larger audience (government agencies, elected
officials, statewide or national media.)
The embrace strategy
generates grass-roots news and advocacy that leverages a second,
complementary wave from the top-down.
Another element of
the Embrace strategy is training: helping organizations develop
in-house staff capacity to take over the campaign after a
comprehensive mentorship process.
It was this
novel combination of outreach, advocacy and training that won us
a national award from The Corporation for Enterprise Development
